Concert Band serves as the introductory band to NFHS Instrumental Music for all 9th grade wind and percussion players. It also serves as a creative outlet for upperclassmen who would like to learn a secondary instrument. Concert Band serves to prepare all students of various musical backgrounds for the upper band levels. Technical development is stressed. |
Concert Winds is a more advanced wind and percussion ensemble for students who are serious and proficient in musical endeavors. This group provides substantial technical and artistic challenges to students interested in performing fine wind band music. |
Symphony Band is the advanced placement wind and percussion ensemble at NFHS for students who are serious about the playing and studying of music. Membership in this group is achieved by audition. This course gives a professional feeling towards a career in instrumental music. Members of this group also serve as the Orchestra Winds for the NFHS Symphony Orchestra. |
The "Spirit of North" Raider Marching Band is a co-curricular ensemble that is open to wind instrumentalists, with positions also available in the Flag Corps, Drumline, and Pit. With our rich tradition of exciting music and enthusiastic membership, the name "The Spirit of North" has been appropriately bestowed upon the band. Participation in the Raider Marching Band means you are part of the largest, most visible activity at North Farmington High School. The Raider Marching Band performs at all home football games, local marching band festivals, parades, and the annual Tag Days concert in the fall. Spring performances include Cedar Point and Memorial Day Parades. During the football season, the band rehearses 4-5 days a week after school. Marching Band is recognized by NFHS as a Fall Sport, and a school varsity letter can be earned at season's end. |
Jazz Band is a performance ensemble in which the student will explore, through music reading and performance styles, America's only true art form: Jazz Music. The Jazz Band rehearses in the evening once or twice a week. Jazz Band usually forms after marching season and continues through the school year. Membership is determined by audition, with instrumentation based on the traditional "big band" sound (saxophones, trumpets, trombones, piano, bass and percussion). Combo work, big band arranging, writing and improvisation are encouraged. |
Percussion Ensemble and Steel Drum Band are performance ensembles in which the student will expand their knowledge of percussion performance, interpretation, history and playing techniques. Each rehearses after school once or twice a week. These ensembles offer a place for percussionists of all ability levels. Woodwind, brass and string players are welcome to learn percussion as a secondary instrument. |
