For our Tag Days Fundraiser, we ask that all students (Percussion, Band, Marching Band, Color Guard and Orchestra) participate for at least two shifts. The Friday afternoon/evening counts as a 'double shift', and the Saturday shifts are from 8-11am, 11-2pm,2-5pm and 5-8pm.
We have all our instrumental music students dress up in either their Concert Uniforms (Tuxes or Dresses) at home, or their Marching Band/Color Guard Uniforms at North (please arrive early in this case) Once dressed and at North, they should report to the cafeteria. We assign pairs of students to local merchants' places of business. The students ask customers for donations during their shift, and then return to the school to turn in their donations, and to start a second shift.
We also ask that all families help out with TAG Days.

- We need adults to drive the students to and from their assigned merchants. This job entails checking in at school and being assigned a number of students, taking them to their location and dropping them off. At this point, you're free to run errands etc, but, we need you to be available to the students if there are any problems. Most parents 'check in' with their assigned students once during each shift. At the end of the shift you pick them up and return them to North. We ask that most families provide a driver for at least one shift.
- We also need help inside the school: Registering students, assigning merchants, counting money and monitoring the food area are some of the 'Inside North' jobs. (we keep track of how much money we earn each shift at each merchant, so we know where it's most productive to send students)

Marching Band General Information
Note that all current 8th grade band students are encouraged to join Marching Band. In some instances, current 7th grade students can also join. Often there are roles for Orchestra or Choir students as well, and we're always looking for Color Guard members.
There's a great opportunity to get a taste of Marching Band during the Spring MB season. Typically, during the month of May, the Band learns a few simple pieces and marching techniques in preparation for marching in the Memorial Day Parade. A bus will be provided from the Warner & STEAM to NFHS on the rehearsal days, after school. This is a great way to see if Marching Band is right for you, without making the full commitment for the fall season. Marching Band is a great way to make some friends before High School, get involved with a great bunch of people, and have a ton of fun!

During the 2018 season, the Marching Band performed at all the home Football Games, as well as the MSBOA District Marching Band Festival. Additionally the Marching Band Drumline attended and performed at PASIC (Percussion Arts Society International Conference) in Indianapolis.
Sectionals with Clinicians
Starting in October, and running through April, every student in every band and orchestra has a weekly small group lesson, which we call a sectional, with a professional on their instrument. These incredible musician/teachers bring to the students a great depth of knowledge and skill particular to their instrument, and provide an invaluable extension to classroom instruction. This unique and extensive program, completely funded by the boosters, gives the detailed and specific instruction that makes possible the high level of achievement our students regularly attain. The program would not be the same without it. The professionals - members of the DSO, the Michigan Opera, doctoral students and graduates of Uof M, and other fine musicians - commit to working with our students, and the boosters commit to making this possible! We could not offer this exceptional opportunity without the many thousands of dollars raised each year.

TAG DAYS -NFHS to Host: Sept 22 & 23rd
TAG DAYS is the first and the largest fundraiser of our calendar year. Over the course of two days in late September or early October, NFHS band and orchestra students join other Farmington/Farmington Hills music students at businesses around the community to raise funds for all high school band and orchestra programs. Students are required to do two, two-hour shifts during the course of the event. Patrons of the businesses give money in exchange for a ticket to the upcoming Tag Days Concert (see calendar). Parents and students check in at the host school at their designated time, receive their assignment and contribution can, and are transported to their locations by parents. Food and beverages are provided for the students throughout their time working Tag Days. It's a fun way to kick off the year for our district, and students make lasting memories by contributing their time and putting a face on the program for members of the community!
BOTTLE AND CAN DRIVE COMING SOON!
Mark Your Calendars! APRIL 22-24
Our yearly Can and Bottle Drive is the second largest Band and Orchestra fundraiser of the year. Band and Orchestra students and parents canvass north Farmington Hills’ neighborhoods each spring to collect recyclables and turn them in for cash! Through this annual event our organization hopes to raise over $5000 to support music education at North Farmington.
This fundraiser also benefits each young musician who participates. All money raised will be shared 50/50 with the students who volunteer their time. This helps them earn their way to band camp, and pay for private lessons and instrument repairs. Start saving your bottles and cans now, and watch for our yellow lawn signs at the entrances to your neighborhood in April. And remember. . .

It’s time for our annual Poinsettia fundraiser!
Due to delays, the sale has started a bit late.
The deadline for our Poinsettia Sale is this Friday, November 20, 2015!
Please be sure to submit your order with full payment to the booster box, located in the band room. Checks should be made out to NFHS B/O Boosters and label the envelope “Poinsettia Sale”.
Every student who participates in this fundraiser will earn 50% of the profit from the Poinsettia sale. We hope you will find this program beneficial for your family.
Reminders:
Pick up schedule to be determined… sometime between December 7th-10th. (actual date to be finalized with the florist and communicated to all purchasers via email supplied)
We want to be sure to have a beautiful display during our Holiday Concerts. So we are asking if there is anyone willing to leave their plant(s) until after the final holiday concert, or who wishes to purchase a plant to donate after the concerts to a local area nursing home.
Any questions please contact Janet Devereux at [email protected]
Thank you for your participation and support!

TAG DAYS - OCT. 2 & 3, 2015
WHAT: Tag Days is the MAJOR fundraiser for the music programs at all three FPS high schools; Farmington, Harrison & North Farmington. Music students ask for donations from the community at participating retail sites. Donors receive 'TAGS' or tickets which can be used at any of the three school concerts. The money collected will be evenly divided between all three school music departments to benefit all students. All money goes into the General Fund to help EVERY music student with supplies (reeds, valve oil, strings, etc.) and instruction (tutoring, clinics, repair to school instruments, etc.).
WHY: This is a critical fundraiser for all three high schools, especially with state funding cuts and large deficits in the district budget. This is also a great opportunity for the kids from all schools to get to know each other and the community.
This year, TAG DAYS was at HARRISON High School - hosted by Farmington High School.

About Bottle and Can Drive...
On April 30, nearly 200 students and parents from the North Farmington High School Bands and Orchestras will descend on north Farmington Hills’ neighborhoods for our annual Bottle and Can Drive! This yearly fundraiser, organized by the NFHS Band & Orchestra Boosters, hopes to raise over $5000 to support music education at North Farmington. “The money raised will help purchase and repair instruments, hire clinicians for specialized instruction, purchase music and supplies and provide scholarships for band camp,” said Paul Garland, director of this year’s effort.
The event will also directly benefit each young musician who participates. All money raised will be shared 50/50 with the students who volunteer their time. This helps them earn their way to band camp, and pay for private lessons and instrument repairs. “We want our kids to take ownership of their education and to see a payoff for their hard work,” said Garland.
The North Farmington Band and Orchestra Boosters are asking north Farmington Hills residents to save all returnables- bottles and cans- and place them in bags outside of their homes for the kids to pick up on Saturday. The group will also provide a drive-up/drop-off option during this year's event. For those interested, bring your cans and bottle to the back of the school between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on April 30. “This is a great way to get friends and family members involved that live outside of our collection areas,” commented Garland. “We want all the cans and bottles we can get!"
Watch for our yellow lawn signs at the entrances to your neighborhood. With the community’s support, we will continue to provide the highest quality music education program for the students and parents of NFHS. “The importance of supporting music education at our schools can’t be overstated,” said Michael Yoskovich, Director of Bands for NFHS. “We know that student’s test scores improve when they take music classes. We’ve always known that smart kids take music. Now we know that music education makes smarter kids.”
